Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has expressed concerns within the INDIA bloc regarding Congress' leadership role, urging the party to prove its position rather than assuming it.
While recognizing Congress as a key pan-India opposition force, Abdullah emphasized that leadership must be earned. He pointed out some dissatisfaction among alliance partners, noting that Congress isn't doing enough to justify its position. He praised Sonia Gandhi for her leadership within the opposition but criticized the lack of consistent engagement within the bloc.
Abdullah stressed the need for regular interactions, warning that the alliance should not exist only during election periods. He cautioned that without consistent efforts, the bloc risks becoming a temporary coalition, active only during elections. These remarks highlight the underlying tensions in the opposition and the need for more frequent cooperation to avoid conflicts.
