The Aam Aadmi Party is protesting against the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal by the Enforcement Directorate. They are observing ‘Upvas Diwas’ – a day of collective fasting – on April 7.
Party members will gather at Jantar Mantar in Delhi and Khatkar Kalan in Punjab to fast together. They believe fasting purifies the mind and soul and are praying for Kejriwal's strength and blessings to continue his struggle.
AAP leaders affirm the public's love for Kejriwal by portraying him as a son or brother to Delhi's people. They demand bail for Kejriwal and criticize the BJP alleging a lack of evidence in the liquor scam accusations against AAP leaders.
AAP urges nationwide support by asking people to fast in solidarity at various levels of society.
They encourage collective prayers or listening to devotional songs for Kejriwal's strength. This fight is not just Kejriwal's but a battle for democracy against dictatorship and oppression, they say.
It is known that Kejriwal was arrested in a money laundering case related to excise policies and remains in judicial custody until April 15.
In fact, these practices are almost akin to what the TDP folks did following the arrest of Chandrababu Naidu a few months ago.
