83% of Engineering Graduates Remain Jobless

Unemployment is continuously rising under the BJP government, making it difficult even for highly educated individuals to find jobs. According to the latest Talent Report 2025 by skill development company Unstop, 83% of engineering graduates in India are still unemployed. Additionally, 46% of business administration graduates have not secured jobs or internship programs. The report attributes this crisis to both a lack of industry-relevant skills and the ongoing job shortage.

Skill Gap Among Youth

The Economic Survey reveals that only 8.25% of graduates are employed in jobs matching their qualifications, while the remaining 91.75% are forced into small or unrelated jobs. Furthermore, the International Labour Organization (ILO) states that 47% of Indian youth lack the skills required by industries. The ILO emphasizes the need for government initiatives to enhance youth skills.

Skill Development Goals Unmet

To tackle unemployment, the BJP government launched the Skill Development initiative and introduced the PM Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) in 2015 to improve workforce skills. Additionally, the Skill India Mission was introduced the same year. However, analysts argue that these initiatives have largely remained promotional campaigns without achieving their goals. If these schemes had been effective, unemployment wouldn’t have reached such alarming levels, and skill development among youth would have improved. The Unstop report supports this claim.
