45 Days of Maha Kumbh Mela: A Recap

The Maha Kumbh Mela, which began on January 13, came to an end on the occasion of Maha Shivaratri. On the final day, devotees attended in large numbers. Over 2.5 crore devotees took part in the holy bath on Maha Shivaratri day. The Uttar Pradesh government revealed that more than 65 crore people had taken part in the sacred baths over the 45 days of the Maha Kumbh Mela at the Sangam bank in Prayagraj. With the final day’s statistics, this number is expected to rise even further.

Meanwhile, after grand processions of the seven Shaiva Akharas, the Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 concluded with special prayers at the Kashi Vishwanath Temple on Maha Shivaratri. As part of the procession, over 10,000 Naga Sadhus, in high spirits, displayed their deities, flags, tridents, swords, and maces, singing and dancing while chanting "Har Har Mahadev" as they paraded through the streets of Kashi.

On Maha Shivaratri, devotees flocked to Prayagraj for the holy bath. On the final day of the Kumbh Mela, a flower shower was conducted on the devotees from helicopters, enhancing the devotional atmosphere for the spiritual journey. Officials reported that millions of people reached Prayagraj to perform the last Amrit Snan (holy bath) on Maha Shivaratri.

On the final day, due to the large number of devotees attending for Maha Shivaratri, the Uttar Pradesh government took heightened security measures. Restrictions were enforced to prevent any untoward incidents. The Kumbh Mela area was declared a no-vehicle zone, with a large number of personnel deployed for security. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath personally oversaw the arrangements, continuously coordinating with senior officials to ensure the smooth conduct of the Shivaratri celebrations.
