The Supreme Court clarified on Tuesday that a 40% disability alone cannot prevent someone from pursuing medical education. The court emphasized that unless experts provide a report deeming the individual unfit for medical studies, disability is not a barrier to pursuing an MBBS degree.
The ruling came after a medical board declared that a disabled candidate could pursue medical education without any obstacles. Subsequently, on September 18, the Supreme Court granted permission for the candidate to enroll in the MBBS program, further explaining the rationale behind its decision.
The court also directed that the candidate’s ability should be assessed by the Disability Assessment Board.
