22% of India's Wealthy Considering Leaving the Country

Nearly 22% of India's wealthy individuals are considering leaving the country, seeking better living conditions, higher quality of life, and a more business-friendly environment, according to a recent survey. Kotak Private, a leading wealth management firm in India, conducted the survey in collaboration with Ernst & Young (EY), covering 150 of the country's richest individuals.

1 in 5 Wealthy Indians Planning to Move Abroad

The survey found that 1 in every 5 affluent Indians is currently thinking about migrating. Many of them prefer to retain their Indian citizenship while settling permanently in a foreign country of their choice.

Preferred Destinations

The most sought-after destinations include:

  • United States

  • United Kingdom

  • Australia

  • Canada

  • United Arab Emirates (UAE) (which offers a Golden Visa program)

Reasons for Leaving India

The survey highlights several key reasons why wealthy Indians are considering moving abroad:

  • Higher quality of life

  • Better education, healthcare, and medical facilities

  • Improved lifestyle

  • Ease of doing business – Two-thirds of respondents cited this as a primary motivation for migration.

This growing trend reflects the desire of India's affluent class to access global opportunities and improved living standards.
