The son of Beant Singh has declared his intention to run for the Punjab parliamentary elections.
Sarabjit Singh Khalsa, aged 45 and a high school dropout, will contest as an independent candidate from the Faridkot constituency which is reserved for certain communities.
Khalsa has a history in politics having previously attempted but failed to secure a seat in the Lok Sabha elections.
He contested in 2014 and 2009 from Fatehgarh Sahib and Bathinda constituencies respectively without success. In 2019 he was the candidate for the Bahujan Samaj Party.
His family has a political background too with his mother Bimal Kaur and grandfather Sucha Singh serving as Members of Parliament from Ropar and Bathinda, respectively, in 1989.
Khalsa's decision to contest in the upcoming elections adds another chapter to his family's political legacy in Punjab.
