YouTuber Booked In Sexually Assaulting Transgender

The MeToo movement in the Malayalam film industry has taken a troubling turn with recent allegations against Kerala YouTuber Santhosh Varkey known as Arattannan. He and four others have been accused of sexually assaulting a transgender woman makeup artist.

An FIR has been filed in Ernakulam naming Arattannan short film writer Vineeth, Alin Jose, Bright and Abhilash Attayam.

The victim alleged that Vineeth offered her a role and visited her home with friends including Arattannan where they sexually assaulted her. The FIR includes charges under IPC sections 377 (unnatural offences), 506 (criminal intimidation), 511 (attempts to commit serious offences), and 34 (acts done by several persons) along with section 18(d) of the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2019.

Police are investigating but no arrests have been made yet. This case adds to a growing list of allegations in the Malayalam film industry following recent revelations from the Justice Hema Committee Report which highlighted sexual harassment issues.
