YouTuber 'Savukku' Shankar, presently incarcerated in Coimbatore Central prison, was recently detained under the Goondas Act by Chennai city police.
The decision was made by Sandeep Rai Rathore, the Commissioner of Police, Greater Chennai, and was executed by a cybercrime police inspector on May 12.
Shankar is implicated in seven cases handled by Chennai police's central crime branch.
Among these, three cases are currently under investigation and two have had charge sheets filed whereas the other are awaiting trial, according to a police press release.
The Goondas Act as per IPC allows authorities to detain individuals deemed a threat to public safety or peace for up to one year without bail.
Shankar's arrest under this act says about the severity of the charges against him and the perceived threat he poses. We have to see where it ends.
