Will They Stir Controversy Again… or Step Back?

'Empuraan' (Lucifer 2) is nearing the end of its theatrical run. The film not only scored big at the box office but also sparked several controversies. Now, it is set to begin streaming this Thursday.

Usually, when a film comes to OTT, it’s a routine affair. But in the case of Empuraan, it’s anything but ordinary. The film has been surrounded by multiple controversies, especially since several scenes were removed after its theatrical release.

Now, the big question everyone is asking: Will the OTT version include the deleted scenes, or will it stream the censored theatrical version?

Some of the scenes in the film sparked major backlash, particularly those depicting violence against women. Following intense criticism, those scenes were removed from the theatrical cut. It is likely that the edited version will be streamed on OTT as well.

The makers have already faced enough trouble — including Income Tax raids on both the producer and the lead actor. In Kerala, the film also became a political flashpoint. Given all this, the team is understandably reluctant to invite more controversy.

According to the latest update from Jio Hotstar, the version of Empuraan that will be streamed is one that is free of any objectionable content. There will be no separate “uncut” or “censored” versions made available, putting an end to speculation.
