Mallika Sherawat, who recently returned to Bollywood with Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video, was initially cast in Netflix's The Royals to play Ishaan Khatter's mother. However, she turned down the role, later taken by Sakshi Tanwar, citing creative differences. Mallika explained that the role did not meet the promises made and felt "lame" on paper, leading her to exit the project in February after discussions with the production team.
The Royals, a modern-day Indian royal rom-com, features a star-studded cast including Bhumi Pednekar, Zeenat Aman, and others. Reflecting on her career, Mallika shared feeling underutilized in comedy, expressing her desire for more roles that showcase her comic timing and substance.
She also mentioned her aspirations to reunite with filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt, revealing that they are collaborating on a potential project, which she hopes will materialize into a film soon.
