Tamil superstar Vijay, also known as Thalapathy Vijay, held his first political rally in Tamil Nadu’s Villupuram district for his newly formed party, Tamiliga Vettri Kazhagam. Speaking to a crowd of over 300,000, Vijay expressed his commitment to politics stating he was “throwing away” his successful film career, including his significant earnings to serve the people.
Notably Vijay recently earned Rs 275 crore for Thalapathy 69 his biggest film to date. Reflecting on his journey to stardom, he recounted the initial criticism he faced about his looks and style crediting his fans' unwavering support for his success.
Vijay hopes for the same trust in his political career. He announced he would retire from acting after completing his current commitments to focus solely on politics, with Thalapathy 69 featuring stars like Pooja Hegde and Bobby Deol being his final film project.
Many in the South say that Vijay is following in the footsteps of Pawan Kalyan, who has been active in politics with his own party for a decade and recently emerged as Deputy Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. Vijay seems confident that, one day, he too can leverage a similar wave of support to attain power, just as Pawan Kalyan has done.
