As anticipated, the historical drama Chhava, starring Vicky Kaushal and Rashmika Mandanna, found itself entangled in controversy. However, the issue was swiftly resolved thanks to proactive measures by the makers.
The film, based on the life of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, faced objections from Maharashtra's ministers. They demanded that the film be screened for historians before its release to ensure historical accuracy. They also warned that the release would be stalled if their concerns were not addressed.
One major objection centered around a dance sequence involving Sambhaji Maharaj. Maharashtra's government argued that the scene dishonored the dignity of the revered king. Even the Chief Minister intervened, advising the filmmakers to ensure the film upheld Sambhaji Maharaj's legacy without compromising on creativity.
Responding promptly, the film’s director, Laxman Utekar, met with Raj Thackeray and agreed to remove the contentious scene. The production team assured ministers and historians that they would respect public sentiment and eliminate any scenes that could offend.
The filmmakers clarified that Chhava was inspired by historical books on Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj and aimed to honor his legacy. They also stated they had no intention of courting controversy.
To address the concerns and seek approval, the team organized a special premiere on January 29 for ministers and historians. Rashmika Mandanna plays the role of Maharani Yesubai in this highly anticipated film.
With these assurances, the controversy surrounding Chhava was amicably resolved within hours.
