Poet Kumar Vishwas faced backlash for comments seemingly targeting actor Shatrughan Sinha and his daughter Sonakshi Sinha at a poetry event in Meerut. Vishwas remarked that families should teach children about the Ramayana, or risk their household's "Lakshmi" being taken away. The comments sparked controversy, as Shatrughan’s home is named Ramayana, and Sonakshi recently married Zaheer Iqbal, suggesting Vishwas was criticizing her interfaith marriage.
Congress leader Supriya Shrinate condemned Vishwas, calling his remarks "cheap" and accusing him of objectifying women as property. She demanded an apology to the Sinhas. Netizens also criticized Vishwas for his outdated views and interference in personal matters.
This comes after Mukesh Khanna faced criticism for blaming Shatrughan Sinha for not teaching Sonakshi about the Ramayana, referencing a 2019 quiz show incident. Both Sonakshi and her father defended themselves, with Shatrughan questioning Khanna’s authority on Hinduism.
