It’s not uncommon for celebrities to find themselves in legal troubles over endorsement deals. Often, cases are filed against film stars, alleging that their endorsement of certain real estate companies led to financial losses for investors. However, such issues rarely cause major legal trouble for the stars. On the other hand, promotions for online gaming and betting apps have recently become a more serious concern for some.
Betting apps, often disguised as mobile gaming platforms, have been heavily promoted, especially during events like the IPL (Indian Premier League). While some operate legally, others are involved in dubious practices. These apps frequently use popular film and sports stars for promotions. The endorsement of such apps has led to legal scrutiny, with several celebrities being questioned.
In a recent betting app scandal in northern India, Bollywood stars like Ranbir Kapoor, Shraddha Kapoor, and Kapil Sharma were summoned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for questioning. Now, Tamannaah Bhatia has also been summoned by the ED for promoting an online streaming app linked to the same betting platform, known as the Mahadev Betting App. Tamannaah appeared before the ED in Guwahati for the investigation.
While celebrities might claim ignorance about the nature of the apps they promote, they could still face legal challenges. The ED is expected to inquire about the financial transactions involved in these promotions, including how much was paid, in what form, and the source of the funds. As companies use celebrities to promote their ventures, stars could find themselves embroiled in legal complications they hadn’t anticipated.
