Suriya's Periodic Action Drama Kanguva Garners Mixed Response

Kollywood star Suriya's much-anticipated film Kanguva has hit the screens, bringing with it a wave of excitement and criticism. Directed by Siruthai Siva, the period-action movie is produced under the banners of Studio Green and UV Creations by KE Gnanavel Raja, Vamsi, and Pramod. Released on November 14, the film has received a mixed response from audiences and critics alike.

Key Cast and Remuneration Highlights

Bollywood actor Bobby Deol plays the antagonist, while Disha Patani stars as the female lead. Disha reportedly charged a staggering Rs 5 crores for her role, making it her highest remuneration to date. However, her performance failed to impress many, with critics pointing out her lack of impactful acting, focusing instead on her glam quotient.

Storyline Overview

Set centuries ago, the film revolves around five regions—Pranava Kona, Rudhira Kona, Kapala Kona, Hima Kona, and Cheekati Kona—each ruled by its own leader. Suriya plays Kanguva, the ruler of Pranava Kona, a brave warrior. Bobby Deol portrays Udheeran, the leader of Kapala Kona.

The conflict begins when a Roman emperor tries to dominate Pranava Kona by instigating a war among the five regions. While preparing for battle, Kanguva ventures into Cheekati Kona in search of a child named Paloma, leaving his kingdom behind. The story unfolds with questions about Paloma's identity, Kanguva’s decisions, and the fate of his kingdom.

Technical Aspects and Budget

Kanguva is one of the costliest films of the year, with a production budget exceeding Rs 350 crores. Despite its grandeur, the sound design faced criticism for being overly loud. Producer KE Gnanavel Raja acknowledged the issue, stating that they are planning to rework the sound mixing to address audience concerns.

Cast and Crew

Apart from Suriya, Disha, and Bobby Deol, the film features notable actors such as Natarajan Subramaniam, Jagapathi Babu, Yogi Babu, Kovai Sarala, Redin Kingsley, Anandaraj, and KS Ravikumar.

Kanguva stands as a visually stunning yet polarizing cinematic experience, reflecting both the ambition of its makers and the diverse expectations of its audience
