Despite facing challenges in securing a proper release, Suriya's movie Kanguva emerged as one of the highest-grossing films of the year. The film struggled to get the expected number of screens in both the Nizam region and Tamil Nadu. However, it managed to secure a spot among this year’s top grossers.
Kanguva grossed Rs 58 crores worldwide on its opening day, marking the highest opening in Suriya’s career. This achievement also placed the film in the third position among the year’s top-grossing movies.
In the list of movies with the highest first-day worldwide collections this year, Vijay's Leo (Rs 120 crores gross) claimed the first position, followed by Vettaiyan (Rs 78 crores gross) in the second. Kanguva secured the third spot, pushing Amaran (Rs 42 crores gross) to fourth place.
Responding to criticism, producer Gnanavel addressed concerns about the movie’s runtime, stating that there was no need to dwell on the issue. He admitted that the sound levels in the film exceeded permissible limits and requested exhibitors to reduce the sound by two points in theaters.
Regarding the negative talk on Kanguva’s first day, the producer reminded everyone that Devara also faced similar criticism initially but managed to overcome it in due course.
