In a significant relief for actress Rhea Chakraborty, the Supreme Court has upheld the Bombay High Court's decision to cancel the Lookout Circular (LOC) issued against her and her family in the Sushant Singh Rajput death case. The court dismissed the petition filed by the Maharashtra government challenging the High Court’s order.
Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead under suspicious circumstances in his Mumbai residence on June 14, 2020. His family filed a case against Rhea and her family, alleging foul play and financial misappropriation of Rs 15 crore from Sushant's account. Following this, Rhea was investigated by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) over possible money laundering and questioned by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Additionally, accusations of providing drugs to Sushant led to her and her brother Showik's arrest.
In response to these allegations, the CBI issued an LOC against Rhea, her brother Showik, and father Indrajit Chakraborty to prevent them from leaving the country. However, after Rhea approached the Bombay High Court, the LOC was canceled. The Maharashtra government then appealed to the Supreme Court, which has now dismissed their petition, supporting the High Court's order.
