Veteran South Korean actress and voice artist Lee Joo Shil passed away at 80 on February 2, 2025, after a brave battle with stomach cancer. Known for her impactful roles, including in Squid Game 2, Lee was beloved by fans, co-stars, and her family. Her agency confirmed the news, revealing she had fought cancer for three months before her death at her daughter’s home in Seoul. Despite emergency CPR efforts, she could not be saved.
Lee's body was moved to Severance Hospital in Seoul, where fans can pay their respects starting February 4. A funeral service is set for February 5. Lee previously battled stage 3 breast cancer at age 50, defying doctors' expectations.
Her acting career began in 1964, and she continued to inspire with roles in films and TV shows like Notebook From My Mother (2017) and Clown of a Salesman (2015). Her story of resilience touched many.
