Bollywood actress and Lok Sabha MP Kangana Ranaut is facing controversy over her political drama Emergency. Amid backlash she has appealed to the opposition specifically the Congress party to allow the film’s release.
Kangana expressed willingness to invite Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for a screening urging the party not to block the film.
She asked the Congress members to watch the film first and then voice their concerns if needed emphasizing the importance of not suppressing her voice. Kangana suggested that showing some kindness and grace as the opposition would be a meaningful gesture. The film portrays political unrest in the 1970s and the assassination of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
However it has been accused of hurting the sentiments of the Sikh community.
Due to Public Interest Litigations (PILs) filed by religious groups the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has withheld the film's certification delaying its release.
