The Madhya Pradesh High Court has asked the Central government to confirm if Kangana Ranaut's film 'Emergency' has been certified by the Central Board of Film Certification. The film which was initially set to release on September 6 has been postponed following controversies over its portrayal of the Sikh community.
The High Court's notice came after a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was filed by the Jabalpur Sikh Sangat claiming that the film depicts Sikhs negatively and is not in the public interest.
The Sikh group has requested a halt to the film's release arguing that it could harm societal sentiments. The court's intervention reflects the serious concerns raised by the Sikh community and highlights the need for a review of the film’s certification.
Kangana Ranaut a BJP MP and actress plays former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in the film which is set against the backdrop of the 1984 emergency during Gandhi's tenure.
