Rohit Shetty’s 2022 film Cirkus failed at the box office, earning only Rs 35.65 crore, but its purpose extended beyond commercial success. Writer Yunus Sajawal revealed that Shetty created the film during the pandemic to ensure his unit had steady income.
With work halted and savings depleting, Shetty decided to shoot an indoor film, prioritizing his team’s livelihoods. He stated, “If I don’t work for two years, it’s fine, but what about my unit?” Shetty employed over 500 crew members, paying everyone despite restrictions allowing only 100 people on set. Junior artists were also hired for months, receiving regular paychecks regardless of shooting schedules.
Though Cirkus was a commercial failure, Shetty bore the responsibility silently, valuing his team’s well-being over profits. His latest release, Singham Again, was a global hit, earning over Rs 400 crores.
