At Sahitya AajTak 2024, actor-politician Ravi Kishan shared his 34-year journey in cinema and his role in Laapataa Ladies, India’s official Oscar entry.
Born to a Brahmin priest, Ravi spoke of his humble beginnings recalling how his father’s disbelief in his acting dreams led to early struggles.
He started in theatre playing roles like Sitaji in Ram Leela, before navigating the tough film industry. Without connections in Mumbai Ravi endured hardships living in a small room with an outdoor bathroom and walking across the city for opportunities.
Ravi’s career spans Telugu cinema, Hindi films and television, where he honed a unique acting style blending naturalism and charisma. For Laapataa Ladies, directed by Kiran Rao he drew inspiration from real-life observations portraying a Bihari police officer with authenticity. Despite challenges, Ravi’s perseverance underscores his journey from obscurity to recognition.
