Veteran actor Paresh Rawal recently expressed his disapproval of method acting, reacting to Ranveer Singh’s revelation that playing Alauddin Khilji in Padmaavat left him emotionally drained. In an interview, Rawal argued that actors should maintain a “witness attitude” and not let a role consume them. His comments sparked debate online, with many questioning his comparison and logic.
Several Reddit users disagreed with Rawal, arguing that different actors have their own methods. Some cited examples like Heath Ledger and Vikram, who immersed themselves deeply in roles for powerful performances. Others felt that while Rawal’s point about detachment was valid, his analogy comparing acting intensity to drinking habits was weak.
The discussion resurfaced as Padmaavat was re-released in theaters on February 6. Ranveer’s portrayal of Khilji won critical acclaim and a Filmfare Award, further fueling the debate on whether deep character immersion is beneficial or detrimental for actors.
