Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty and her husband Raj Kundra are accused of cheating a trader Prithviraj Kothari in Mumbai.
Kothari alleges that the couple and their associates created a scheme through their company promising high returns on gold investments.
This scheme, called 'Satyug Gold,' guaranteed gold delivery at a fixed rate regardless of market changes.
Persuaded by these promises Kothari invested Rs 90,38,600 but did not receive the gold by the maturity date of April 2, 2019.
He has provided documents including a letter signed by Shetty and an invoice from Satyug Gold to support his claims.
This isn't the first legal issue for Shetty and Kundra. Earlier this year the Enforcement Directorate (ED) seized Kundra’s properties worth Rs 97.79 crore.
The ED alleged that Kundra and others had collected massive funds in bitcoins from the public promising a 10% monthly return, which amounted to Rs 6600 crore in 2017.
The properties were seized under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) 2002.
