SS Rajamouli's "RRR" and Sandeep Reddy Vanga's "Animal" are two highly discussed Indian films notable for their box office success despite mixed reviews.
Veteran actress Ratna Pathak Shah shared her candid thoughts on these films and the rise of aggressive action movies in a recent interview.
She compared the current trend to the impact of films like "Zanjeer" and "Deewar" from the 70s and 80s which reflected societal anger.
Though Ratna admitted she hadn't fully watched "RRR" or "Animal", she acknowledged their popularity but found them not to her taste.
She felt distanced by the mood of "Animal" just from its poster and comments she heard about it.
Ratna also discussed the portrayal of sex and violence in South Indian films noting a stark contrast between their depiction of a civilized society and extreme violence.
She mentioned directors like Vetrimaran whose films she finds disturbingly violent but also acknowledged the responsibility of filmmakers in how violence is presented.
Ratna Pathak Shah was last seen in Tarun Dudeja’s road adventure drama "Dhak Dhak."
