Bollywood actor Arshad Warsi faced backlash after calling Prabhas' character in the blockbuster Kalki 2898AD a "Joker" sparking tension between Bollywood and South Indian cinema fans. Prabhas' supporters criticized Warsi while others in North India began trolling Kalki after its OTT release.
In response director Nag Ashwin took a mature stance urging unity within the Indian film industry and downplaying regional divides.
He wrote, “Let’s not go backwards..no more north-south or bolly vs tolly..eyes on the bigger picture.. United Indian Film Industry..Arshad saab should have chosen his words better..but it’s ok..sending buji toys 4 his kids..il work hard so tweets fdfs that prabhas was the best ever in k2”
Ashwin's reaction gained widespread approval on social media for its conciliatory tone. He also reassured fans that he would work hard to ensure Prabhas delivers his best in the sequel which has yet to resume shooting.
The controversy highlighted the divide between different regional film industries but also underscored the importance of unity and respect in Indian cinema.
