Lyricist's Daughter Supports Intimacy scenes

Lyricist's Daughter Supports Intimacy scenes

On Thursday in Mumbai lyricist-screenwriter Javed Akhtar and his daughter, filmmaker Zoya Akhtar participated in an engaging session. They discussed their passion for literature and cinema highlighting their close bond with humor and insight.

Zoya who directed Netflix's adaptation of The Archies and the film Kho Gaye Hum Kahaan shared her views on censorship in OTT platforms.

She argued that physical intimacy on screen should not be censored emphasizing that it is important to depict consensual intimacy rather than censoring such scenes while allowing other forms of violence and harassment. Zoya noted that artistic choices vary by filmmaker and are influenced by cultural perspectives.

For instance French cinema often portrays nudity more openly compared to American films. Her father Javed Akhtar supported her views noting that the intention behind showing intimate scenes matters more than the scenes themselves. He compared on screen language and violence to real life situations stressing the importance of intention over mere shock value.
