Bollywood actress and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut criticized the opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics for a controversial drag performance involving children which she deemed 'hyper sexualized and blasphemous'.
The performance which included a depiction of The Last Supper with drag queens and a naked man painted blue as Jesus, sparked outrage online with many calling it an insult to Christianity.
Kangana expressed her disapproval on Instagram questioning the relevance of sexuality in the Olympics and criticizing the event for being overtly focused on homosexuality.
She argued that such themes should remain separate from sports and national representation.
The performance along with other acts like the beheading of Marie Antoinette and Philippe Katerine’s portrayal of Dionysus also drew significant backlash on social media.
Neither the Paris Olympics organizers nor the performers have confirmed if the act was meant to be a reimagining of The Last Supper.
Kangana who recently won a Lok Sabha seat on a BJP ticket is also preparing for her upcoming film, Emergency, set to release in September 2024.
