Kangana Ranaut’s Electricity Bill Row

Kangana Ranaut’s Electricity Bill Row

Mandi MP Kangana Ranaut’s claim of receiving an inflated electricity bill of Rs 1 lakh for a single month has drawn sharp rebuttals from the Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board, which clarified that the amount covered two months and included earlier unpaid dues.

Accusing Ranaut of habitual late payments, the board revealed she cleared January and February bills totaling 14,000 units—only on March 28, and received a Rs 700 subsidy under the state scheme.

The HPSEB stated that Ranaut’s Manali residence shows consistently high consumption and rejected her claim of minimal usage due to non-occupancy. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu dismissed the controversy as “non-serious,” while his media adviser accused the MP of spreading misinformation.

Meanwhile, BJP leaders defended Ranaut, alleging that the electricity board was acting under political pressure. They maintained that Ranaut’s intention was to highlight the rising cost burden on rural consumers, not to mislead or deflect responsibility.
