Kalki Facing Plagiarism Charges

Kalki Facing Plagiarism Charges

After the Kalki 2898 AD trailer release Hollywood concept artists Oliver Beck and Sung Choi accused Vyjayanthi Movies of plagiarizing their artwork.

Beck revealed that he was initially approached to work on the film but after discussions fell through he noticed his work in the trailer.

Both artists posted comparisons of their illustrations with trailer stills.

Choi later removed his post but Beck continued to assert his claims stating the trailer clearly referenced his work particularly in color palettes and shapes.

Beck acknowledged the difficulty of proving legal plagiarism as his work wasn’t directly copied but he highlighted the artist community’s support for his claims.

He expressed frustration over the lack of recourse for artists in such situations, mentioning that the best action might be a YouTube copyright strike to raise awareness.

This incident significantly affected Beck’s perception of the Indian film industry, which he now views negatively due to reported poor working conditions and budget allocations favoring actors over artists.

Despite reaching out, he received no response from the film’s makers. Directed by Nag Ashwin, Kalki 2898 AD features prominent actors and is set for release on June 27.
