SP MP Jaya Bachchan criticized BJP MPs injured during a recent Parliament scuffle, calling their hospital treatment “drama.” During a protest march, she sarcastically praised BJP MPs Pratap Chandra Sarangi, Mukesh Rajput, and S Phangnon Konyak as “better performers” than any actor, urging they be awarded for acting. Bachchan mocked Rajput's ICU stint, claiming his injuries were exaggerated for effect.
The BJP retaliated, calling her remarks reflective of the Opposition’s “true culture.” BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla accused Bachchan of siding with the “aggressor,” referring to allegations by Konyak, a tribal MP, against Rahul Gandhi. Konyak alleged Gandhi’s actions during the scuffle made her feel "extremely uncomfortable."
Poonawalla argued Bachchan’s comments disrespected tribal women and accused the Opposition of lacking empathy. He also highlighted a contradiction, noting Bachchan’s past advocacy for women’s dignity while disparaging Konyak. The controversy has intensified political tensions between the BJP and INDIA bloc.
