Shiv Sena leader and former Maharashtra minister Aaditya Thackeray has criticized the Election Commission of India (ECI) and its Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), Rajiv Kumar. Thackeray took exception to the CEC’s statement that Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) cannot be tampered with, alleging that tampering is indeed happening. He questioned the evidence supporting the CEC's claim that tampering is impossible.
Aaditya Thackeray suggested that the Election Commission conduct an experiment by placing EVMs and ballot papers side by side to determine whether tampering is feasible. Referring to the ECI's handling of Lok Sabha and state assembly elections, he commented that the commission appears to function like a "Compromised Commission of India."
Earlier in the day, while announcing the Delhi Assembly election schedule, CEC Rajiv Kumar dismissed allegations of EVM tampering raised by opposition parties. He asserted that there is no evidence to suggest tampering is possible and emphasized that there is no need to doubt the integrity of EVMs.
