Indian Films Make Entry At Cannes After 30 Years!

Two Indian films secure spots in the 77th Cannes Film Festival lineup after 30 years of hibernation. "All We Imagine As Light" is the film by Payal Kapadia marking India's return to the prestigious Palme d'Or competition.

Accompanying Kapadia's work is "Santosh," directed by British Indian filmmaker Sandhya Suri is set to feature in the Un Certain Regard section.

Indian cinema's Cannes journey dates back to 1946 with Chetan Anand's groundbreaking 'Neecha Nagar' which not only earned a Palme d'Or nomination but also clinched the coveted award.

This film released in 1946 depicted a rich man facing off against protesting villagers making it the sole Indian Palme d'Or winner to date.

Later V Shantaram's Amar Bhoopali entered the competition in 1952 while Satyajit Ray's Parash Pathar went to the competition at Cannes Film Festival in 1958.

MS Sathyu's Garm Hava also competed in 1974. So after 30 years, in 2024 again India is representing at the Cannes!

The Cannes Festival, set to run from May 14 to May 25 promises a global celebration of cinematic excellence, showcasing diverse films from around the world.
