Director Calls It 'Anti Indian Debate'

'The Kashmir Files' director Vivek Agnihotri declined an invitation from Oxford Union to debate on Kashmir calling the theme "offensive" and a "direct challenge to India's sovereignty". On social media Vivek shared his decision stating that Kashmir is not a topic for debate but a sensitive issue of suffering and resilience.

In his letter to Oxford Union, he explained that their proposed debate on an "Independent State of Kashmir" disrespects India's sovereignty and insults the displaced victims of the 1990 Kashmir genocide. He expressed that turning the tragedy into a debate trivializes the pain and loss endured.

Vivek said that Kashmir’s history involves deep emotions and should not be reduced to a simplistic debate. He urged Oxford Union to focus on meaningful discussions about progress rather than reopening painful wounds for intellectual sport.
