Comedian Munawar Faruqui recently shared his struggle when his son Mikael was diagnosed with Kawasaki Disease at 1.5 years old. On a podcast with Janice Sequeira, he described his financial difficulties, revealing he had only Rs 700 while each of the three injections his son needed cost Rs 25,000. Kawasaki Disease is a rare illness that causes inflammation in blood vessels, particularly affecting children under five.
Symptoms include prolonged fever, rashes, red eyes, swollen lymph nodes, joint discomfort, and irritability. While its exact cause is unclear, it may stem from an abnormal immune response, possibly triggered by infection or genetics. Diagnosis involves physical exams, blood tests, and heart ultrasounds.
Though incurable, early treatment, including intravenous immunoglobulin, aspirin, and heart monitoring, effectively manages the disease. Munawar’s story highlights the emotional and financial toll of coping with such rare illnesses.
