In the wake of controversial and explicit comments made by YouTuber Ranveer Altrabadia, and the widespread circulation of inappropriate jokes on social media, the Indian government has issued a warning to Over-the-Top (OTT) platforms to adhere to moral values.
The advisory, issued by the Ministry of Information and Technology on Thursday, urges self-regulatory bodies and OTT platforms to follow the IT Rules, 2021, and the 'Code of Ethics.'
The government emphasized that OTT platforms must comply with ethical standards, and if any violations occur, self-regulatory bodies must take appropriate and stringent action.
Complaints had been raised by several Parliament members and organizations about the excessive broadcast of inappropriate, sexually explicit, and vulgar content across online curated platforms and social media, prompting the government to release this advisory.
