The Bishnoi community supports gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, demanding that actor Salman Khan apologize for killing a black buck, an animal sacred to them. Ramesh Bishnoi, Lawrence’s cousin, said Salman’s actions hurt the community’s religious sentiments, and if he doesn’t apologize, the law will take its course.
Salman was convicted in 2018 for hunting a black buck in 1998 and sentenced to five years in jail, but he appealed the verdict in the Supreme Court.
Lawrence Bishnoi, in jail since 2015, declared in 2018 that he wanted to kill Salman over the incident. The actor has recently received threats, allegedly from the Bishnoi gang. Ramesh claimed the community refused financial compensation offered by Salman, and denied that Lawrence was involved in extortion, noting that their family is wealthy.
He said Lawrence has not been proven guilty in court, unlike Salman, and believes Lawrence is being framed. Despite his criminal charges, Lawrence was once a good student and had earned a scholarship.
