Actor and influencer Sahil Khan was arrested by Mumbai police in connection to the Mahadev betting app case. He appeared before a court and was remanded in police custody until May 1.
The case also under investigation by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has implicated several Bollywood figures as part of a crackdown on various betting and gaming apps.
Reports from September 19th 2023 revealed that 17 Bollywood stars were under scrutiny in the scam.
Earlier, Sahil Khan attempted to obtain anticipatory bail but it was denied by the Bombay High Court.
He claimed to be a brand promoter for M/s. Isports247, promoting The Lion Book brand denying any direct involvement with the betting platform.
Other celebrities summoned in the case include Shraddha Kapoor, Ranbir Kapoor, Kapil Sharma, Huma Qureshi and Hina Khan. They were called in to clarify their roles in promoting the app and the fees they received allegedly proceeds of crime.
The Mahadev ap is run by Sourabh Chandrakar and Ravi Uppal, facilitated illegal betting in various sports and games for four years.
It allegedly laundered money through Benami bank accounts and rigged games to favor the company and amassed around Rs 5,000 crore in the process.
