Auto Driver Gets Key Position in Vijay's Party

Actor-turned-politician Vijay, who is leading the Tamizha Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) with the slogan of "civilized politics," is shaping his party in a novel way. Instead of favoring wealthy donors offering suitcases full of money, he is recognizing his dedicated fans and awarding them key positions in the party.

As part of this initiative, an auto driver has been appointed as a district secretary in Chennai, a differently-abled man has been given the same position in Coimbatore, and a housewife has been made the district secretary of Ramanathapuram.

Building the Party’s Structure

Vijay has been organizing his party meticulously, from its inauguration and flag unveiling to its first major convention. With his eyes set on the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, he is expanding the party’s reach by forming district committees across the state.

Tamil Nadu has 234 Assembly constituencies, and in some cases, two or three constituencies are being grouped into a single district for the party’s organizational structure. Each district committee includes:

One district secretary
One joint secretary
One assistant secretary
One treasurer
Ten general body members, including four women
The party has been releasing the list of district secretaries in phases, appointing 19 secretaries in each round.

Giving Recognition to Ordinary Workers

Unlike conventional political parties, Vijay is prioritizing loyal grassroots workers over financial backers. Some of the key appointments include:

K. Appu, an auto driver from T. Nagar, appointed as South Chennai North District Secretary.

Appu, who earns his livelihood by driving an auto, has been a staunch Vijay supporter for years. Recognizing his dedication, Vijay entrusted him with this key party position.

Babu, a differently-abled man, appointed as Coimbatore East District Secretary.

Babu, who moves around in a three-wheeler, has been a devoted fan willing to go to great lengths for Vijay. His commitment earned him the district leadership role.

Malar Veli Jayabala, a housewife, appointed as Ramanathapuram District Secretary.

Despite many lobbying for the position, Vijay recognized her unwavering support and awarded her the role.

These appointments reflect Vijay's approach of valuing loyalty and dedication over money and influence. Speaking about his appointment, auto driver Appu stated that in TVK, it is one’s service that matters, not wealth. Similarly, Babu, the differently-abled district secretary, expressed his determination to work towards making Vijay the Chief Minister.

With this unique strategy, Vijay is setting a new precedent in Tamil Nadu politics, building a people-centric political movement.
