Honey Singh criticized the veteran lyricist Gulzar's song "Beedi" from the 2006 film Omkara, calling it "misogynistic." In an interview with Times of India, Singh reacted to criticisms of his own lyrics being deemed objectionable.
He pointed out that Gulzar's lyrics in "Beedi" about a woman's body parts are also problematic questioning why only his lyrics are targeted.
Singh argued that he is often criticized while other controversial songs are overlooked. He defended his own work saying he does not objectify women and contrasted his lyrics with older controversial songs that were accepted in their time.
Honey Singh's new album 'Glory' released on August 26 features collaborations with Latin American, Western European and Indian folk artists.
