Anurag Kashyap Slams Netflix India Over ‘Adolescence’

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has criticized Netflix India for lacking creative vision after praising the streaming platform’s new one-take series Adolescence. While lauding the show and its young actor Owen Cooper, he expressed frustration, claiming that Netflix India would have rejected such a concept or condensed it into a short film.

In an Instagram comment, Kashyap accused Netflix India of being creatively insecure and prioritizing subscriptions over artistic storytelling. He recalled his struggles with the platform after Sacred Games, alleging a lack of courage and honesty among its leadership. He called out the hypocrisy of Netflix’s global executives, who he claims support mediocrity in the Indian market.

He also criticized Netflix India’s upcoming show Saare Jahan Se Accha, labeling it "half-baked" and poorly handled. Kashyap lamented the declining creative atmosphere in Bollywood, stating that he has moved away from Mumbai due to its toxic industry environment.
