Actress Ameesha Patel voiced concerns about the changing dynamics of Bollywood, stating that newcomers are more focused on their Instagram presence than their on-screen performances. She compared this to her era, which she believes was more dedicated to acting, with stars like Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, and Kareena Kapoor prioritizing their craft.
Patel argued that social media obsession prevents younger actors from drawing audiences to theatres. Instead of focusing on films, they concentrate on making reels and showcasing their lifestyle, which she sees as a major drawback. She emphasized that box office results highlight this difference, as established actors continue to attract viewers.
She further stated that overexposure on social media diminishes an actor’s appeal. Unlike today’s generation, older stars maintained a sense of mystery, keeping audiences intrigued. Patel believes Instagram is a useful tool but should not replace an actor’s dedication to cinema.
