In response to industry concerns about a government advisory requiring AI platforms to obtain permission before launching AI products, Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology Rajeev Chandrasekhar clarified that the directive does not apply to startups.
In a post on X, formerly Twitter, Chandrasekhar stated, "It's important to understand the recent advisory from @GoI_MeitY. The advisory targets significant platforms, and seeking permission from MeitY is only necessary for large platforms, exempting startups."
Chandrasekhar reiterated this point in another post, saying, "The best approach for protection is to use labeling and explicit consent. For major platforms, obtaining government permission before deploying error-prone platforms is advised."
It is known that the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology issued an advisory on March 1, asking the platforms to submit an action report to the ministry within 15 days regarding the curbing of deep fakes.
