Masaba Gupta revealed that acting was not initially considered for her due to her mother Neena Gupta believing that the film industry values conventional beauty standards. Neena felt it would be difficult for Masaba to succeed as a mainstream Hindi film heroine advising her against pursuing acting.
According to Masaba, her mother believed she would be seen as unconventional and likely typecast in vamp or seductress roles.
Though it sounds like body shaming on reading this, Masaba actually appreciated this advice, acknowledging that parents can often be overly supportive without addressing realistic challenges. She preferred leading roles over supporting ones and recognized the frustration that comes with the acting industry.
Masaba also shared her experiences with body shaming, recalling hurtful comments about her acne scars including comparisons to actor Om Puri. Despite such negativity she remains determined to succeed and hopes that in the future people will look beyond her scars and appreciate her achievements.
