Actor-Director Supports 'Honor Violence'

Actor-Director Supports 'Honor Violence'

Actor-director Ranjith (not to be confused with Pa Ranjith) known for his work in Tamil and Malayalam films, made a controversial statement defending honour killing.

After a screening of his film Kavundampalayam on August 9 in Salem, Tamil Nadu, Ranjith claimed that caste based honour killings are not acts of violence but expressions of parental love. He compared it to the way people react to a stolen bike suggesting that parents are simply showing care for their children through these acts.

This is not Ranjith's first controversial statement. He has previously made remarks about women’s clothing. His film Kavundampalayam also explores contentious issues like caste violence and parental control. The trailer includes a provocative dialogue about traditional gender roles.

Ranjith’s remarks have sparked outrage online with critics expressing shock and disappointment accusing him of endorsing harmful practices and reflecting a troubling mindset.
