Popular Tamil actor and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leader Joseph Vijay has been granted 'Y' category security by the Union Home Ministry. The ministry has issued official orders to provide this security cover. This development comes after Vijay’s political party recently celebrated its first anniversary. As part of preparations for the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections next year, Vijay is set to embark on a statewide tour. Notably, he has appointed election strategist Prashant Kishor as his chief advisor.
On the 26th of this month, the party will also hold its General Body Meeting. In this context, the central government has decided to grant 'Y' category security to Vijay, meaning he will be protected by 8 to 11 CRPF personnel at all times. However, the government clarified that this security cover will be applicable only within Tamil Nadu. Given Vijay’s massive fan following, the state government is also planning to deploy additional security to manage potential crowd surges in areas he visits.
Reacting to this decision, AIADMK senior leader KP Munusamy stated that while it is acceptable to provide security due to his political status and massive fan following, using it for political gain or to please Vijay would be inappropriate. He further remarked, with a hint of sarcasm, that BJP's history makes it evident why Vijay has been granted this security cover.
