Legendary Actor Uttam Mohanty Passes Away

The film industry is in mourning with the passing of renowned Odia actor Uttam Mohanty at the age of 66. He had been suffering from liver cirrhosis for some time and passed away on the night of February 27 at Medanta Hospital in Gurugram while undergoing treatment. Following the news of his death, fans, film industry celebrities, and political leaders have expressed their condolences on social media.

Uttam Mohanty began his film career in the Odia film industry with the movie Abhiman in 1977. He gained prominence as a top actor during the 1980s and 90s. Throughout his 50-year film career, he acted in over 135 films, including Odia, Bengali, and Hindi films. Uttam's wife Aparajita and his son Babushan are also well-known actors in the Odia film industry.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik expressed his grief over the loss of Uttam Mohanty, describing his death as an irreparable loss to the Odia art world. The Odisha government has decided to conduct his last rites with official honors.
