At the 2024 South Indian International Movie Awards (SIIMA) in Dubai, Kannada actor Kiccha Sudeep corrected an anchor for mispronouncing "Kannada" as "Kannad." The anchor from Hyderabad quickly apologized and Sudeep emphasized that such mistakes were not acceptable, especially from someone familiar with South Indian languages.
A video of the exchange has since gone viral. Sudeep noted that while it’s more understandable when people from Mumbai mispronounce it, a Hyderabadi doing so was not right.
This incident recalls Sudeep’s 2022 language controversy when he remarked that Hindi is not a national language, sparking a debate with Bollywood actor Ajay Devgn. Ajay questioned Sudeep’s stance citing Hindi as the national language to which Sudeep responded, clarifying that his statement was taken out of context.
On the work front, Sudeep was last seen in Max and is set to appear in Billa Ranga Baashaa, Kabzaa 2, Kichcha 47, and Kichcha 48.
