Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa has been detained by police in connection with the murder of his 33-year old fan, Renuka Swamy.
Seventeen people have been arrested in the case. The investigation has also brought up the unresolved disappearance of Darshan's former manager, Mallikarjun B Sankanagoudar, missing since 2016.
Mallikarjun from Karnataka's Gadag district managed Darshan's film schedules and had ventured into film production and distribution facing significant financial losses.
He was indebted to veteran actor Arjun Sarja for Rs 1 crore resulting in a lawsuit over a distribution agreement for the film 'Prema Baraha.' Additionally Mallikarjun allegedly misappropriated Rs 2 crore from Darshan before disappearing.
Despite ongoing police efforts Mallikarjun remains untraceable with the Thoogudeepa family silent on the matter sparking speculation.
Some netizens on social media mention that if someone is missing for years and not traceable yet, it should be understood as he or she is no more, though not legally concluded.
Renuka Swamy's murder was reportedly ordered by Darshan after Swamy who worked at a pharmacy, harassed Pavithra Gowda, Darshan's alleged girlfriend, with objectionable messages and pictures.
The harassment led Darshan to orchestrate the killing through a gang. Darshan and Pavithra Gowda are among those arrested.
